On Wednesday, May 9, Chilton Hospital’s celebration of National Nurses Week was highlighted by an induction of six individuals into its sixth annual “Circle of Excellence.”

“Because this is the sixth consecutive year, we wanted to do something special for our 542 nurses, patient care technicians and specialty technicians who are dedicated to serving the community with clinical excellence and compassion,” said Chilton Hospital President and CEO Deborah K. Zastocki, DNP, RN. “Therefore, we added a sixth category to the awards ceremony: ‘Excellence in Patient Centered Care by a Patient Care Technician or Technician.’ To be eligible for nomination, one must have served as a mentor and provided exceptional personalized care for our patients.”

The awards and winners are as follows:

  • Excellence in Nursing Leadership: Joanne Reich, RN, MA, NE-A, BC (of Montvale), vice president and chief nursing officer
  • Excellence in Patient Centered Care by a Preceptor: Karen Whitehead, RN (of Green Township), Medical/Surgical Intermediate Care Unit

The American Nurses Association (ANA), the largest nursing organization in the U.S., created National Nurses Week to highlight the diverse ways in which registered nurses, the nation’s largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. The ANA designated the 2012 National Nurses Week theme as “Nurses: Advocating, Leading, Caring.”
