Chilton Hospital is offering a stroke screening on Monday, June 25, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., at its Chilton Health Network building at 242 West Parkway, Pompton Plains.

The event includes a blood pressure screening, cholesterol/glucose screening, carotid bruits assessment, atrial fibrillation through pulse palpation and health education counseling and materials.

According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is the No. 4 cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability in the United States.  Each year, about 795,000 Americans suffer a new or recurrent stroke, causing 137,000 deaths.  The good news is that about 80 percent of strokes are preventable.
