Chilton Hospital’s CPR Training Center announces its July 2012 classes. All classes are held at 242 West Parkway, Pompton Plains (located 1.5 miles down the street from the hospital). Heartsaver First Aid

  • Friday, July 6, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Heartsaver Adult First Aid Course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The Heartsaver First Aid course consists of General Principles, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies. This course meets OSHA requirements.

Heartsaver Adult/Child CPR With AED

  • Friday, July 6, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Friday, July 13, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This course is for individuals who need to learn CPR and how to operate an AED (automated external defibrillator). The course offers instruction in adult CPR, use of the AED and choking. Optional Child CPR with AED modules are also offered. The intended audience is anyone who has a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This is a two-year certification.

CPR for Friends and Family

  • Tuesday, July 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Friday, July 27, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This is an entry-level class that teaches you how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and how to help a person who is choking. You will learn to perform these techniques on adults, children and infants. The optional First Aid portion teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child for the first few minutes until professional help arrives. This course is of particular interest to new and expectant parents, relatives, babysitters and seniors. The CPR for Family & Friends program is conducted according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association. This is not a certification course, but you will receive a participation card.

BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers

  • Monday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Friday, July 13, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Monday, July 23, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. This class is for licensed or nonlicensed health care professionals. The intended audience is health care providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers and other allied health personnel.

BLS for Healthcare Providers Renewal Class

  • Monday, July 2, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 10, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Monday, July 16, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Friday, July 20, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 31, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

This class is for those who are interested in renewing their CPR certification.
