Karen Stutzer receives an award from the AACN for her dedication to nursing.Butler resident Karen Stutzer, RN, MS, CCRN, APN-C received an award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) for her dedication to the field of nursing. She is the executive director of Nursing Practice/Critical Care and Medical-Surgical Services at Chilton Hospital in Pompton Plains, NJ.

The AACN award was presented to Stutzer in recognition of her serving the AACN Board of Directors from 2009 to 2012 and as treasurer from 2010 to 2011. Through thoughtful collaboration, the board helps to further AACN’s mission of a patient and family-driven health care system where acute and critical care nurses can make their optimal contributions.

“It is truly an honor to receive recognition from AACN and I consider it a great privilege to serve the community as a nurse,” Stutzer said. “In the various positions I have held throughout my 35-year career as a nurse, I know that I am making a difference in people’s lives. I can’t think of anything else I would rather do!”

Stutzer has served Chilton’s community as a nurse for more than 20 years duringh two stints: She began her career in 1974 as a nurse’s aide and left the hospital in 1989 as a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. Stutzer returned to Chilton in 2006 as the manager of the Education Department and then became the critical care director in 2008. She was promoted to her current position in 2009.
