Lincoln Park Resident Daniel Misa is Named President-Elect of New Jersey State Nurses Association, Region 1|
Lincoln Park resident Daniel Misa, RN, has been elected to serve as President-Elect for Region 1 of the New Jersey State Nurses’ Association, the largest professional nursing organization in the state. He will serve from August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2013, and then becomes president until July 31, 2015.
NJSNA has six regions. Region 1 current membership is approximately 349 nurses in Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Warren Counties, many of whom have concurrent membership in the American Nurses Association. As President-Elect, Misa will assist the current Region 1 President, Jackie Galante, BSN, RN, with coordination of community service events, continuing education events, and creation of opportunities for nurse networking and mentoring throughout the year. In her absence, he will also have voice and vote at all NJSNA Board meetings.
“We are fortunate to have Dan as a Region Board member,” said Galante. “His enthusiasm for the nursing profession is inspiring. He will wear as many hats as necessary to get the job done, and embraces leadership opportunities on a daily basis.”
Misa, who serves as a night shift nurse in Chilton’s Emergency Department (ED), began his journey to a career in patient care at the age of 14. He started as a junior volunteer at Chilton’s 4 West Medical/Surgical/Oncology unit in February 2003 and also volunteered for the Pain Management Center in the summers of 2003 to 2005. Misa became a diet aide for the Dietetics Department from September 2004 until July 2006. He began working in the ED in July 2006, first as a business partner for two years, then as an ED Tech for an additional two years and finally as a registered nurse in 2011. In addition, he was a student nurse extern in the ICU during the summer of 2009.
When asked what his greatest reward was for being a nurse, Misa responded: “I get the most out of being there for the patient and for their families during various stages of health. It’s mostly in the acute phase in the ED. I enjoy just being there for the patient as well as offering support for the family during the time they need it most.”
