Chilton's Sleep Health Institute Receives AASM Accreditation|
The Sleep Health Institute at Chilton Hospital recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). This marks the second time that Chilton has achieved a five-year accreditation from the organization.
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates The Sleep Health Institute at Chilton Hospital on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said AASM President Dr. Sam Fleishman. “The Sleep Health Institute is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality of care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”
To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
“The five-year accreditation from AASM demonstrates our ambition to provide high-quality sleep health for our community,” said Sleep Health Institute Medical Director John Penek, MD, FCCP, who is board certified in Sleep Medicine. “Obstructive sleep apnea has been linked to a variety of life-threatening illnesses, so it’s critical to provide a first-rate facility to help diagnose and treat this and other sleep disorders.”
