Chilton Hospital’s CPR Training Center Announces its October 2012 Schedule of Life-Saving Classes

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid

  • Wednesday, October 10, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  Topics include First Aid Basics, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies.


Heartsaver Adult/Child CPR With AED

  • Friday, October 12, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 16, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This course is for individuals who need to learn CPR and how to operate an AED (automated external defibrillator). The course offers instruction in adult CPR, use of the AED and choking. Optional Child CPR with AED modules are also offered. The intended audience is anyone who has a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This is a two-year certification.


CPR for Friends and Family

  • Friday, October 5, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This is an entry-level class that teaches you how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and how to help a person who is choking. You will learn to perform these techniques on adults, children and infants. The optional First Aid portion teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child for the first few minutes until professional help arrives. This course is of particular interest to new and expectant parents, relatives, babysitters and seniors. The CPR for Family & Friends program is conducted according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association. This is not a certification course, but you will receive a participation card.


ECG (Electrocardiogram) & Pharmacology

  • Saturday, October 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This comprehensive program is the perfect pre-course for new and renewing ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) and PALS (pediatric advanced life support) providers. This course covers basic electrophysiology, normal ECG measurement, basic arrhythmia, basic ACLS drugs, usage and routes of administration during cardiovascular emergencies and how to integrate basic drug pharmacology into ACLS algorithms.


ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Provider Course

  • Saturday, October 13, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, October 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (two-day class)
  • Wednesday, October 17, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (two-day class)

The ACLS Provider Course is a two-day class designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. The intended audience is emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics and respiratory therapists; and other professionals who may have a need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.


ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Renewal

  • Wednesday, October 3, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This class is for those interested in a renewal of ACLS certification.


BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers

  • Monday, October 1, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Friday, October 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Monday, October 22, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. This class is for licensed or nonlicensed health care professionals. The intended audience is health care providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers and other allied health personnel.


BLS for Healthcare Providers Renewal Class

  • Tuesday, October 9, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Monday, October 15, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Monday, October 29, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 30, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

This class is for those who are interested in renewing their CPR certification.
