In an effort to better identify and address the region’s health care needs, Chilton Medical Center worked with eleven hospitals in northwestern and central New Jersey to survey the community.
The survey was conducted to identify the most important health issues in the region, as well as by county, using a scientific method to validate health indicators and to compare results.
In addition to engaging the hospitals and health systems, the program also involved more than 150 community representatives from a broad spectrum of organizations who assisted in identifying and prioritizing health needs for a community benefit plan.
The federal government now requires that non-profit hospitals conduct a community needs health assessment. These studies help health care providers build stronger relationships with their communities, identify needs and dedicate funding and other resources toward programs that clearly benefit local residents.
