Parent Education at Chilton Medical CenterIf only kids came with instructions. Truth be told, all parents can all use a little help every now and then! Whether you’re new on the job or a seasoned veteran, Chilton Medical Center can be a valuable resource for family health. We offer a host of courses, seminars and special events on all kinds of parenting topics, from breastfeeding your newborn to training your teenage babysitter. And just when you thought you were done, you can join us for a class on grandparenting!

Baby On The Way: Prenatal Classes

Childbirth Preparation Course
Nervous? Excited? A little of both? Get ready for your special delivery by learning everything you need to know, including: stages of labor and birth, the partner's role, coping techniques (Lamaze breathing and other methods of relaxation), pain management options, postpartum care and preparing for parenthood. This comprehensive, four-week session program addresses every aspect of childbirth and wraps up with a tour of Chilton's new Mother Baby Center.

One-Intensive Childbirth Preparation - The Short Version!
No time for classes? No problem! Join us for an intensive one-day session that covers the same material as our childbirth preparation course, tour included. Please bring your own lunch.

Childbirth Education Online
Are you unable to attend conventional prenatal classes due to bed rest, scheduling conflicts or time constraints? Chilton Medical Center offers a Web-based alternative suitable for any parent. The eLearning Childbirth Education Program is an interactive class that covers everything in the Childbirth Preparation/Lamaze program. After signing up, you will receive a password and instructions.
Fee: $200

Discover the benefits of breastfeeding while receiving information on prenatal preparation, positioning, nutrition and tips for making this a positive experience for mom and baby.

Baby Basics
If you're wondering about bottles, burpies and binkies, join us for a class covering all the baby basics. You'll get the skinny on bathing your newborn, diapering, handling fussy babies, and getting your infant to sleep through the you can, too!

Baby's First Six Months
Spend an evening with one of our pediatricians, who will discuss parenting in the first six months of life as well as important decisions to make before baby is born. Topics include newborn care, immunizations, allergies, crying, signs of illness, safety and more.

Just for Dads

Sibling Preparation Class
Welcoming a new brother or sister is a special experience. This fun, educational program, developed for children ages 3 to 9, prepares siblings for their growing family. They'll learn about babies, express their feelings and even visit the hospital Nursery. Two adults may participate with the child.

Grandparents Class

Mommy & Me Power Hour
Attention new moms: Do you want to get back your workout routine but can't find a babysitter? Mommy & Me Power Hour is the solution! This outdoor power interval class allows moms to bring their babies or toddlers up to three years of age for a great exercise program that uses a stroller, workout bands and mats.

Safe Sitter
Is your "baby" ready for babysitting? This hands-on class teaches boys and girls, ages 11 to 13, how to safely care for children, including guidance on handling emergencies (such as choking and injuries), discipline, entertaining tots and safe play.

Relating to Motherhood
Motherhood is time filled with countless joys, but it is also guaranteed to be challenging and stressful. In our "Relating to Motherhood" group, we offer a safe and confidential place to explore your emotions and all that comes with being a mom. Topics include: baby care, sleep issues, body image, work/life balance, taking care of yourself and understanding powerful hormonew during the postpartum period. The group is also open to topics introduced by those present. We welcome all mothers with babies up to one year of age. This is a perfect opportunity to get information and support during the adjustment period with your baby and beyond. Pre-registration is required. Life After Gestational Diabetes for You and Your Baby 
Now that you've had gestational diabetes, come to this workshop to learn strategies to decrease your risk for Type 2 diabetes and your baby's risk for childhood obesity. Breastfeeding Warm Line
Breastfeeding sounds like it would come naturally, but unexpected issues may occur.  Problems such as plugged ducts, leaking and other normal occurences can lead to anxiety and stress.  For any questions or concerns about breastfeeding, Chilton Medical Center's MotherBaby Center offers a Breastfeeding Warm Line for support and personalized care.  It's free of charge and your call will be answered within 24 hours.  Our specialists, who are available between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., can determine whether you need a physicians' order for a lactation consultant. Call 973-831-5263 to speak to a compassionate professional who understands what your'e going through. If your call is not returned within 24 hours, please call 973-831-5122.
